Baby Girl’s Bedroom, Our Cheshire Home

This beautiful baby girl’s room was designed by myself!

I wanted to create a luxury yet timeless room, so I did this by ensuring that a lot of the materials, such as the wallpapers, carpets, blinds and curtains were made, to last. If I need to change the look and feel when the baby is older – I can, by just swapping out accessories. This is the most cost effective way to create a luxury home on a budget. The beautiful solid oak cot, was sourced and purchased from an independent boutique in Chelsea, London and I searched high and low to find something that fitted the brief that was “pretty”. I love the waved edges!

To complement the gorgeous white cot bed I chose some wooden furniture including the beautiful light green wardrobes, tall boy unit and chest of drawers that would be perfect for keeping all her accessories tidy, such as teddies and blankets – or even clothes! Luscious baby pink has been used along with soft cream to give this baby girls nursery enough warmth whilst remaining delicate and feminine.

3D Floorplan

Whenever I start a project I always measure up and create the 3D floor-plan so I can visualise how the room will look before it has been decorated properly, which helps me to ensure that I do have enough space. I love adding a feature wall to all my home interiors as they are so much fun and can really make the room pop! In this room, I went for panelling which gave it that real sophisticated touch and had each panel designed with a bespoke wall-covering.

Vision Board

The next thing I do is create a vision board. Usually I start off with something that gives us inspiration and also create your ideal colour palette for the room, I am loving Farrow and Ball and Little Greene Paint colours at the moment! For this room, I added in the gold to give it a contemporary feel, whilst opting for features such as the ceiling rose to ensure it was in-keeping with the property style and also gave it that elegant touch. In terms of lighting, I wanted to add in a feature spot light above the cot which would give off plenty of ambient light.

This particular room has been decorated with mainly LED lights which are energy saving and don’t lose any luminance when dimmed down! I chose the Philips Smart Bulbs for this room, as I thought as the baby grows older she will love changing her light colours to suit her mood, or have some fun when friends are round.

The furniture is solid oak and I made the curtains myself creating a pelmet which adds more luxury to the room. The blinds I got were made to measure from my supplier and I opted for black out material (because nobody wants the baby waking when it’s light!) and paid extra to have the thermal lining which gives it a nicer waterfall look when hung. The main furnishings I felt it was important to spend more on, as I wanted to ensure they lasted.

Textiles Board

The final thing I love to do is to put together a touchy-feely textiles board, to give an idea of what sort of fabrics you love. In this room, I opted for some super soft polyamide fibres for the pink rug, silky 100% bamboo cot sheets that are hypo-allergenic as the baby has eczema and for the walls and curtains we went for a texturised finish. This really makes the room feel lovely, warm and cosy and is such a nice room to sit in feeding the baby at night with the night light on.

So, what does the overall look and finish of the room look like?

Once I have an idea of size, space, textiles, colours and furniture I mock it up in 3D so I can visualise the space and exactly how it will look! This allows me to see if there are any areas I would like to change, or if I want it a different colour!
